Phase 3 of the HCG Diet

P3 of the HCG Diet is one of the most important parts of the HCG diet. Understanding how to do this phase is the key to a lasting success.

But what exactly is Phase 3 of the HCG diet?

Phase 3 of the HCG diet is often known as the HCG maintenance phase of the diet. After you’ve successfully done the first 2 phases, whether you are doing the 46-day round or the 26-day round, you will have to go to the next phase which is the maintenance phase. The maintenance phase starts immediately after the hormone is out of your body, that’s about 3 days after your last dose of the HCG.

How to do the P3?

Since there will be no HCG left in your body, you must increase the amount of your food intake. You will start to increase your calorie consumption from the 500 calories a day to 1200 calories.

You may start reinforcing back varieties of food. However, you cannot do these too fast. Calories must be brought back in a way that will not shock your body or may lead you to gain weight.

From Dr. Simeons Pounds and Inches, he explained that dieters can start consuming back a higher amount of any kinds of proteins, vegetables and fruits. But dieters have to be careful of the fruits with higher sugar content. Dieter can also consume other foods in the diet provided they are very low in carbs and in sugar. Here’s how you can do phase 3 of the HCG diet:

  • Reintroduce back foods into your body slowly.
  • As much as possible, do not eat any sugars and starches.
  • Eat only a tiny amount of fats, nuts and dairy.
  • Pay attention to calories.
  • Cut-out whatever foods you’re eating that causes you to gain weight.
  • Always keep the 2 pounds rule. Keep your weight to only 2 pounds higher than your end weight during the P2.

 How important is Phase 3?

Phase 3 of the HCG diet is as important as the P1 and P2. This is where a lot of dieters don’t really understand how important this phase is. That’s why there are dieters who skip this phase and end up gaining more weight back. Phase 3 is so crucial in order to maintain your new weight. During this phase, you do not have to continue eating only 500 calories a day to maintain your new weight.

Transition Phase of the HCG Diet

Now you are about to end your journey with the VLCD of the HCG diet and you are about to get yourself into the heavenly Phase 3 of the HCG diet. But wait! Before you to go the heavenly Phase 3 you need past through the transition period first.

What is the TRANSITION period from Phase 2 to Phase 3 of the HCG diet?

The transition period is the 72 hour period during your diet with HCG where you stop taking the HCG but you still continue with your 500 calorie intake a day. The transition period lasts for 72 hours. The 72 hours starts right away following your last dose of hcg hormone.

Don’t get mixed up. Your last dose of the hormone is included in the 72 hour period and not for 3 days after your last injection. If your last dose is Friday then Phase 3 of the HCG diet starts on Monday. If your last dose is Sunday, then your P3 starts on Wednesday.

The Transition period is very important because this makes sure that all traces of HCG are out of your system before you will reintroduce back a large portion of foods.

Why continue with the 500 calorie diet during the Transition period?

It takes about 72 hours for the hormones to leave the body thus making you more susceptible to losing or gaining fat. When you take in more calories even if there are still traces of HCG in your body, you could gain weight. Now as the 72 hours period comes to an end, you might get hungrier and hungrier. Now what to do about it?

How to do EAT properly during the Transition period?

Your first 24 hours following the very low calorie diet would be just like the other very low calorie diet days. But as the last 24 hours unfold, you will feel symptoms of TRUE hunger. You can do the following:

  • Add more calories towards the tail end of the transition period. You can add about 200-500 calories.
  • Eat more proteins and vegetables. Stay away from fats and oils.

Can I skip the Transition period and do the Phase 3 of the HCG diet right away?

The answer is NO. There are still traces of HCG in our body. The hormone can make your body extra sensitive to fats. So if you screw up, you can easily gain weight.

HCG Diet Hygiene and Beauty Products

One peculiar feature of the HCG diet protocol is that your body can become very sensitive to even a tiny intake of fats.  Even oils, creams, and ointments applied on the skin are easily absorbed which can interfere with how the hormone works. The oils will end up in the body just as you had eaten them according to Dr. Simeons.

Lotions, creams and ointments

If you typically use lotions, creams, and moisturizers every day, then you’ll have to make some adjustments when on the HCG diet. There are several oil-free moisturizers and lotions available in the market that you can use during the HCG diet. You can also replace moisturizers with mineral oil based moisturizing agents.

If you use sunscreen then it should be oil-free or when you put them on someone else, you should wear a glove. Avoid using deodorants. It’s much better to use a natural deodorant made from baby oil and peppermint essential oil.

Cosmetics

In Pounds and Inches, Dr. Simeon was cautious against any cosmetics other than eyebrow pencil, powder and lipstick.

  • Lipstick: Choose a lipstick and lip gloss that doesn’t contain moisturizers. Lip glosses and lipstick today often times have moisturizers so be careful. Avoid lip balm too.
  • Mascara: During Dr. Simeon’s day, mascara is often made with Vaseline but not in the modern day. So, it’s totally fine if you wear one.
  • Foundation: Use a powder foundation. Avoid liquid foundations even if it is oil-free.

Shampoo, Conditioner and toothpaste

You can continue using your regular shampoo and conditioner as long as you do not rub them into your scalp. Use them sparingly and do not leave them on your scalp for a long time. Toothpaste typically contains sorbitol, a form of sugar alcohol. It’s not allowed on the HCG diet so avoid swallowing them. Make it sure that you rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing.

Stress and Weight Gain

HCG can help you lose weight when combined with a very low calorie diet. It resets your hypothalamus gland causing your body to use the “Abnormal Fats” as a source of energy. However, a high level of stress can interfere with this process. High level of stress can counteract the effects of the hormone causing your body to put on weight.

Unexpected Ways Stress Can Cause Weight Gain

  1. Stress decreases your metabolism. When you are stressed, your body reacts to stress by acting as if foods won’t be available in the future. This causes your metabolism and fat burning ability to slow down.
  2. Stress provides for a more fat storage. Your body assumes that there’s a lack of food so it begins to store fats.
  3. Stress can lead to an unhealthy craving. People who are always stressed become emotional eaters. This leads to relapses into addictions, excessive drinking of alcohol and food cravings.

Reasons for Keeping Stress Level Low on the HCG Diet

  1. Stress often leads to diarrhea, bloating, pain and constipation due to physiological effects.
  2. Stress can interfere with the HCG hormone causing an immune problem. This is because when you are stressed your body releases new hormone that interferes with the ones that you have injected.
  3. Stress can lead to bad eating habits.
  4. The HCG hormone could alter your blood pressure when you are stressed.
  5. High level of stress can cause severe skin disorder.

  • Learn how to respond to stress positively.
  • Be happy. The very low calorie diet can be pretty tough and challenging. But if you will have an easier time if you can change your attitude. Be happy and positive all the time.

Foods that May Contribute to Stress at Work

A looming deadline at work, getting your kid’s school project ready the night before they are due can be stressful. Dealing with stress can be tough. They can be good sometimes because stress inspires you to make changes in your life and get things done. But staying stressed for too long can be harmful to your health especially when on the HCG diet.

Sometimes it isn’t just tough situations that cause stress. The foods you eat and drink are sometimes to blame. Some foods can have a negative impact on your body. Since what you eat is something that you can change and control, it will be easy for you to NOT eat something that will negatively affect your health.

  1. Sugar

Sugar is a big NO on the very low calorie diet phase of the HCG diet. It’s the first food that you need to cut-out. One of the occasional treat at work is candies and chocolates. It’s totally fine to eat one sometimes but over-indulging is another story. Sweet treats at work containing artificial sweeteners can also lead to health problems like a headache, metabolic disease and heart disease. Artificial sweeteners may cause side effects that can lead to stress.

  1. Caffeine

Drinking coffee on the HCG diet is allowed. However, it should be consumed in moderation. A small amount of coffee is safe on the HCG diet but over-consumption can lead to a serious problem. Too much caffeine in the body can cause anxiety and loss of concentration. This can make you less productive at work and heightened your stress level. Keep in mind also that caffeine is found not just in your coffee. It’s also in the soft drinks, energy drinks, chocolate, over-the-counter pain reliever and some types of tea.

  1. High-fat foods

Steer clear from foods containing high fats such as pizza, greasy burgers, fried chickens and chips. 100% whole fat dairy like yogurt, cheese and milk should be limit. Consuming a large amount of these dairy products especially on the HCG diet will do no good.

  1. Alcohol

Having a glass of red wine might help you relaxed after a day’s work. Too much alcohol may likely affect your health negatively, adding more stress to your life. Alcohol also increases the production of hormones that can leave you feeling restless and more stressed. Too much alcohol can also increase your blood pressure and heart rate. This triggers the same stress-like symptoms in the body. Alcoholic beverages also are packed with sugar.
