HCG Diet Tips on a Holiday

It’s a holiday season-a time for tons of celebrations here and there with friends, family and loved ones. There would be lots of parties, Christmas lunches and New Year’s Eve dinner. You would be tempted to overindulge with the wrong choice of foods and end up with unwanted pounds.

Dieting during the holidays can be pretty tough but it doesn’t have to be impossible. Now, since you are under the influence of the HCG hormone, we have some few smart tips for you to follow so you may prevent any unwanted weight gains this holiday season. This will also prevent you from cheating and weight plateaus.

  • Before heading out to the party prepare your snack so when you arrive you won’t get starve and eat anything on sight.
  • Watch what you drink. Stick with low alcohol drink or a soda with one shot of spirit with a lime or lemon. Some drinks at the cocktail party are laden with calories. Avoid all creamy cocktails. Do not forget to drink a glass of water between alcoholic drinks to avoid dehydration. Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid any foods in creamy and heavy sauces.
  • Instead of using butter over sweet potatoes add a sprinkle of chopped pecan and some cinnamon.
  • For your side dishes, opt for high fiber filling options like fruits, veggies and whole grains.
  • Choose the leanest cut of meat like chicken and turkey. Remove excess fats before you put them in your mouth.
  • Do not scoop for a huge bowl of ice cream as your sweet treats instead go for a fresh plate of fruits then add up a scoop of ice cream.
  • Say NO to fried appetizers and dough-based finger foods that are being passed around for they really add up to weight gain that fast. Try to stick with vegetables and fresh fruits all the time. Avoid creamy deeps instead go for yogurt or fat-free sour cream with some lemon.
  • Don’t lose sight of your goal.
  • If you really end up cheating on a holiday party don’t give up. Keep going. Just remember why you started the diet in the first place and be motivated all the time.

HCG Diet Hygiene and Beauty Products

One peculiar feature of the HCG diet protocol is that your body can become very sensitive to even a tiny intake of fats.  Even oils, creams, and ointments applied on the skin are easily absorbed which can interfere with how the hormone works. The oils will end up in the body just as you had eaten them according to Dr. Simeons.

Lotions, creams and ointments

If you typically use lotions, creams, and moisturizers every day, then you’ll have to make some adjustments when on the HCG diet. There are several oil-free moisturizers and lotions available in the market that you can use during the HCG diet. You can also replace moisturizers with mineral oil based moisturizing agents.

If you use sunscreen then it should be oil-free or when you put them on someone else, you should wear a glove. Avoid using deodorants. It’s much better to use a natural deodorant made from baby oil and peppermint essential oil.

Cosmetics

In Pounds and Inches, Dr. Simeon was cautious against any cosmetics other than eyebrow pencil, powder and lipstick.

  • Lipstick: Choose a lipstick and lip gloss that doesn’t contain moisturizers. Lip glosses and lipstick today often times have moisturizers so be careful. Avoid lip balm too.
  • Mascara: During Dr. Simeon’s day, mascara is often made with Vaseline but not in the modern day. So, it’s totally fine if you wear one.
  • Foundation: Use a powder foundation. Avoid liquid foundations even if it is oil-free.

Shampoo, Conditioner and toothpaste

You can continue using your regular shampoo and conditioner as long as you do not rub them into your scalp. Use them sparingly and do not leave them on your scalp for a long time. Toothpaste typically contains sorbitol, a form of sugar alcohol. It’s not allowed on the HCG diet so avoid swallowing them. Make it sure that you rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing.

Stress and the HCG Diet

Stress is not always easy to handle especially when on the HCG Diet. High levels of stress can interfere with the process of how the hormone metabolizes the abnormal fats. It counteracts the effects of the HCG. As a result, the body starts to put on weight.

How will this unwanted condition affect your weight loss?

Stress can actually have a totally opposite effect on your weight. For some, stress causes weight loss but it’s not good at all. This is unhealthy and it can cause weakness and dehydration. The overall health is negatively affected. Other tend to gain weight due to the bouts of “comfort” eating or also known as stress eating. This is really a BIG NO if you are on the HCG diet. Stress eating contributes to the build-up of excess calories. And when you’re done with your stress eating it’ll probably be too late for you to regret because you’re months of dieting efforts have all been wasted.

From a study, it had been determined that it’s also the hypothalamus that is responsible for weight gain when you are consumed by stress and anxiety. It’s the very same gland that you are trying to reset with the HCG hormone. It is very vital therefore that you need to keep your stress level low when on the HCG diet.

Reasons for keeping your Stress Level Low on the HCG Diet

  • Stress can affect how your body processes the foods you are eating. This often leads to diarrhea, bloating, pain and constipation. When this happens, your body will start to store fats and you’ll end up gaining some inevitable amount of weight.
  • Stress stimulates the release of a new hormone. This interferes with the hormone you are injecting causing an immune problem.
  • High level of stress can lead to fatigue, low energy and dryness of mouth.
  • Stress can make you turn towards your comfort food. Remember that while you are on the HCG diet, you only need to consume at least 500 calories a day.
  • Stress can cause your blood pressure to spike and lead to unwanted stroke.
  • Stress can cause unwanted skin conditions and diseases.

The best thing to do obviously is to avoid stress though it’s not the easiest thing to do. That is why a lot of dieters are struggling with their weight loss and diet that does not seem to work.

HCG Diet and Menstrual Cycle

One of the most frequently asked question regarding HCG diet is whether a woman should continue having her HCG shots during a menstrual cycle. HCG diet has become more and more popular so this kind of question often comes up. This is definitely worth discussing.

From Dr. Simeons manuscript, NO injections are given during menstruation. He points out that woman should stop having their shot of HCG during their period. During the NO HCG day, you will still continue with your 500 calorie diet. However, as soon as your period is over you have to resume with your HCG at once. If you try to go without HCG after your period is over you may start feeling very hungry.

The reason behind why Dr. Simeon suggests stopping HCG during your period is that it induces water retention. Your weight loss will slow down due to the water retention. But don’t panic and don’t get discouraged. Most of all DO NOT cheat because this will lead to a true stall, worst a weight gain. Remember that this is completely normal. As soon as your period is over your extra weight will just come off.

Dr. Simeons also recommends starting with your HCG diet after your last day of the menstrual period. If you’re doing the 46 day protocol, you will still continue with the NO SHOT day every week. This is in addition to your NO SHOTS during your period. The “no shot” a week is to prevent immunity. It has nothing to do with your menstrual cycle. However, this rule does not apply if you are doing the shorter round of 23 days and that you have started with your HCG diet after your last day of the menstrual period. You are free to do the diet without any interruptions unless you are doing the longer round. Most dieters stopped having their shot of HCG only on their heaviest flow. That’s about 1-2 days and I think it’s a reasonable approach to do. Some continue injecting through their period while others stopped for the full duration of their period.

The Transition Period-3 Days Before Phase 3 of the HCG Diet

After Phase 2 of the hCG diet comes the Phase 3 or the Maintenance Phase where you’ve got to eat REAL FOODS. I know you’ve been eating real foods during your P2 but what I am talking about is that you can finally add some olive oil into your dishes. But hold on…because there is still a Transition period that lasts for 3 long days before you can proceed to Phase 3.

What is Transition period?

How long: Transition period last for 72 hours or 3 days. This makes sure that all traces of HCG are out of your body before you start introducing back larger portion of foods.

When to start: Your transition period starts immediately following your last hCG shot. Now don’t get mixed up. Again, your Transition period of 72 hours begins exactly at the last time of your injection. It’s NOT 3 days after your last injection but 3 days from your last hcg injection. Your last hCG dose is included in the 72 hour period.

How to do: During your transition period you continue with your 500 calories diet WITHOUT having your dose of HCG. Why? Because when you take in more calories while there is still HCG hormone in your body could make you gain weight.

What to eat: During this period the 500 calorie diet is still followed. Your first 24 hours would be just like you are on any other very low calorie diet day. The next 24 hours would be similar your skip shot at the end of every week if you’re doing the 46 day protocol. But on your last 24 hour period, you may find yourself getting hungrier.

What to do: There is no need for you to increase your calorie intake for the first 48 hours. But on the last 24 hours, you may start increasing your calorie intake about 200-300 calories. Eat more of the Phase 2 foods ONLY when you are hungry. And stay away from fats and oil. You can start increasing your fats intake the next day.
