Approved HCG Diet Seasoning and Spices

“Spice up your life” was coined for a reason. Spices improve the taste of foods and are totally rich in nutrients. So, spice up your life in HCG diet. But be careful because some spices can sabotage your results.

This is where many dieters fail to be consistent. Yes, it is important to eat the right foods. I am talking about the approved HCG foods. But you also need to ensure that you use the right ingredients in cooking. Because a little sprinkle of the wrong spices can cause a stall in your diet. There are many spices out there and many of them are HCG approved. But there are also many that are not safe. They contain hidden ingredients like oils, starches and sugar that stall your weight loss. Some real examples are:

  • Garlic powder with modified corn starch can cause plateaus for 3 days.
  • Taco seasoning can make you gain weight at least .4 pound each day you use them.

Here are approved HCG seasoning and spices:

  • Allspice
  • Basil
  • Bay leaf
  • Bragg’s liquid amino
  • Bragg’s organic raw apple cider vinegar
  • Caraway
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Celery salt
  • Chili powder
  • Chines-style five-spice
  • Cilantro
  • Coriander leaf
  • Cinnamon
  • Creole seasoning
  • Cumin seed
  • Dill (seed and leaf)
  • Fennel
  • Garlic
  • Ginger root
  • Hawaiin black salt
  • Himalayan pink salt
  • Lemon
  • Marjoram
  • McCormick (rotisserie chicken seasoning, Italian herb seasoning, garlic pepper grinder, steakhouse seasoning, herb chicken seasonings, broiled steak seasoning,)
  • Mint leaves
  • Mustard
  • Nutmeg
  • Onion
  • Oregano (dried)
  • Paprika
  • Parsley (fresh or dried)
  • Pepper (ground and peppercorns)
  • Peppermint
  • Rosemary
  • Saffron
  • Sage
  • Salt
  • Stevia as a sweetener
  • Tarragon
  • Thyme
  • Turmeric
  • White pepper

Tips on how to choose the right spices

  1. Look for all natural seasoning. Addition of chemicals can slow down your weight loss.
  2. Avoid pre-mixed spices. They usually contain oil, fruit peels, sugar and other that are not allowed on HCG diet.
  3. Always check the ingredients for any oil, starch, maltodextrin and fruit juices and not just the nutrition facts.
  4. Use only unsweetened spices. Any words ending in –tol, -ose or –dextrin are NOT allowed.

Dealing with Hunger during VLCD

Regardless of what type of dieting method you do you will certainly experience some hunger.

Why?

When your body calorie intake is lesser than your calorie expenditure, your body will naturally proceed into survival mode. Then it produces a feeling of hunger which motivates you to eat. This response is spontaneous and there is no way around it.

The HCG diet is no different. However, the HCG hormone provides a faster result. Your hunger will subside when the hormone taps into the unwanted fats in your body. The unwanted fats are then converted into your main source of calorie. Usually your hunger pangs peaks around the 5th or 6th days of your HCG diet. Most can get through the first few weeks but if you find yourself struggling, you can try some of the tips below.

  • Eat more vegetables to control your appetite

One of the effective ways of dealing with hunger during P2 is by increasing your vegetable portion per meal. But make sure that you will not go over your required daily calorie intake. It should not go above 550 calories per day. See to it also that you are eating only the HCG approved vegetables.

You can also lower your protein serving. Instead of eating red meat, eat some fish so you can increase your vegetable portion.

  • Drink plenty of water

Water is proven to help lower your appetite. So, drink lots and lots of water to make your first few days of Phase 2 of HCG easier. Before you eat any of your meal start off with a glass of water, this can make your stomach feel fuller. Drink also water between your meals or when you eat your snacks.

  • Lower your appetite by eating a serving of grapefruit or orange

Citrus fruits are excellent to help you control your appetite. They are also rich in fiber which can help to fill you up without adding calories.

  • Eat slightly more protein

If your work requires you to move around a lot, a slight increase in your protein portion can help you combat your hunger.  But you have to be careful not to overdo this so you won’t go over the specified calorie limit.

  • Slow your eating pace

When you are trying to lose weight, as a general rule, take time with your meals. Slow down with your pace to make it more filling.

Is Mixing of Vegetables on Phase 2 of HCG diet a YES or a NO?

In Dr. Simeons original protocol, he restricted the mixing of vegetables while on the VLCD although he didn’t specifically explain why. But it is believed that this was to avoid eating too many calories unknowingly.

But does it HAS to be this way? Like eating a bowl full of chopped cucumbers with a dash of salt and vinegar until you start getting some gag reflex. OR, is there another way around? Like mixing a little of this and a little of that to make it taste pretty good…

The modern variations of the original protocol permit the mixing of vegetables in Phase 2 of HCG diet and many hcg dieters do experience optimum weight loss. Here’s what you need to know about mixing your vegetables:

  1. When you try mixing your vegetables, make sure that they are all HCG diet approved vegetables.
  2. Use a small amount of each vegetable.
  3. Oil and butter are not allowed so don’t try to use them in your vegetables.
  4. Grill, boil or steam your vegetable mix. Do not sauté them in oil.
  5. Lastly, though it takes an extra effort- weight your vegetable servings out to a certain amount of calorie if you decide to mix them. The mix vegetable portion ends up between 50-70 calories per meal. So, if your protein portion has higher calorie content for 100 grams like beef-your vegetable mix should be at a lower end. But if your protein portion is low like 100 grams of shrimp then your vegetable mix should be higher.

How to mix your vegetable portion during hcg diet phase 2?

Let say you will have red meat for lunch, 100 grams of red meat would give 130 calories. Plus 3 grams of Melba toast with 12 calories and a half cup of grapefruit for 40 calories. This will give you a total of 182 grams for lunch without the vegetable portion. For dinner, 100 grams of shrimp with 110 calories, plus 1 carb portion with 12 calories and another half cup of grapefruit for 40 calories giving you a total of 162 calories. Adding both will give you 346 calories. Minus this from the allotted 500 calories per day gives you a remaining 156 calories.

Now, you will leave half of 156 calories (78 calories) for lunch veggie mix and the other half for dinner. Then break the 78 calories between 3 vegetables of your choice.

As long as you keep your calorie intake not higher than 500 a day you will still get the same results. It’s a matter of personal choice. If you begin to stall in your weight loss, try not to mix them so you can get back on track. And if you find yourself eating too much, stick again with the one vegetable rule per meal.

Phase 2 Additional Instructions

Like in any diet, there’s a right and wrong way to lose weight and a lot of restrictions too. But if you familiarize yourself and adhere to the Phase 2 hcg diet protocol, it can make your hcg diet a lot easier. And if you will not follow some simple guidelines, you could end up wasting your time, effort and your money. Below are list of additional Phase 2 instructions from Dr. Simeons original protocol for you to keep in mind.

DO’S

  1. Weight your 100 grams of protein choices raw after cutting all visible fats off. Use a good quality scale to accurately measure every gram and ounce.
  2. Skip your HCG injections during menstruation but continue with your hcg diet. Sometimes, HCG hormone can cause some issues with menstrual flow. It can either cause it to last longer than normal or entirely prevent the flow.
  3. Drink 2 liters of water a day. Other liquids allowed are tea and coffee. They may be taken in any quantity at all times according to the original protocol.
  4. Remember the list of approved HCG foods. If it’s not listed, you can’t have it.
  5. Note that you are allowed to have chicken breast- not chicken thigh, chicken wings and chicken drumstick.

DON’TS

  1. Don’t use makeup or any skincare products that are oil base. This includes moisturizing lipstick, lotion, foundation and eyeshadow.
  2. Avoid contact with oil on your skin. According to Dr. Simeons, fats and oil on the skin can cause problems during the hcg diet.
  3. You are not allowed to combine multiple servings into one meal.
  4. Do not subsist on your 500 calorie diet without having your HCG injections for many days. This can make you uncomfortable, unhealthy and unsuccessful in the long run.
  5. Do not replace two small fruits like apple for one large apple.
  6. Don’t forget to record your weight in your hcg diet journal.
  7. Do not mix vegetables at your meal or you’ll end up eating more calories because it’s a lot tastier.

Some helpful tips to consider during VLCD

  • Fruit or carb choices can be eaten in between meals. But do not eat more than four items listed for dinner and lunch at one meal.
  • Oils, dressings and butter are not permitted.
  • Boiled, poached or raw eggs are occasionally allowed to those who developed meat aversion. But use 1 whole egg with 3 white eggs as your protein replacement.
  • 100 grams of cottage cheese made from skimmed milk may be used occasionally instead of meat choices.
  • Birth control pills and Aspirin are allowed.
  • Use sugar-free items like Stevia and Splenda sparingly.
  • When your weight loss stalls, have an “Apple Day”. Click here for more information.

What is HCG Diet Phase 2?

Phase 2 of HCG diet is considered as the most challenging yet exciting phase of HCG diet. This is often referred to as the very low-calorie diet or the VLCD. This phase has made HCG diet so famous.

During phase 2 you continue taking your daily HCG injection for a period of 3 to 6 weeks. It’s not going to be fun because you are going to adhere to a very specific list of foods, specific portions and details for preparation. But, if you follow the hcg protocol closely, it will accomplish a lot for you.

How to do Phase 2?

  1. Daily injection of HCG

Have your injection of HCG every day. It is usually done in the morning.  The dosage can range from 125ius to 200ius. However, you can adjust your hcg injection dosage depending on your personal needs. It is also common to change your dose from round to round.

  1. 500 calories hcg diet

As outlined in Dr. Simeons original protocol, the typical calorie intake for phase 2 is 500 calorie hcg diet. Even though the original protocol has an extremely high success rate, there are those who need some extra calories a day. I am talking about people who are extremely active or those who do some intensive job and needs about 100-250 extra calories on some days.

  1. 500 calories a day

Having some extra calories on some days during the VLCD is allowed- but how about having to eat less than 500 calories a day? It is strongly advised to consume all the 500 calories in a day. The main reason is for the maintenance of your body’s metabolism. Another is for keeping your body’s natural cycle in tip-top condition.

However, there are days when you feel that you are not really hungry for all the 500 calories- well you can omit some foods you are not hungry for. But see to it that you eat your 2 100 grams of protein portion during the day.

  1. Daily weighing

Weigh yourself every day. This is usually done in the morning but you will want to weigh more later in the day. Remember to keep track of your weight in your journal.
