Modern HCG Diet Versus Dr. Simeons Original HCG Diet

No doubt both plans work. Thousands and even millions of dieters had an amazing result with each of these approaches.

You may have been familiar with Dr. Simeons’ original HCG Diet protocol and its 500-calorie intake per day on phase 2. Other requirements include a specific food list and prohibition on exercise while on the HCG diet. This protocol has been proven to be very effective for years. Because of the diet restriction, some find it quite challenging to stick with. Thus, physicians and researchers have come up with multiple alternatives protocols, each with its clinical backing. Many of the alternative HCG diet protocols that were introduced since the original protocol focused on making eating easier and less restrictive. However, the result that each plan promised has not been guaranteed to be as good as the original protocol.

Dr. Simeons HCG Diet

Originally created by Dr. Simeons in the 1950s, the HCG diet calls for a very strict calorie intake of only 500 calories per day along with a daily injection of HCG. HCG injection stimulates the brain to signal the body to burn stored fat. The hormone also suppresses cravings and appetite. When followed properly, dieters can lose up to 1 to 2 pounds per day.

It also consists of rigid food list that many find to be intimidating and tend to turn away from it. Some dieters who adhere to the diet often cheat. Dieters who completed the plan, however, have achieved great results.

Modern HCG Diet

The modern HCG diet is a completely different approach. It includes a customized approach designed to make weight loss effortless and fun. It draws upon what we know about modern nutrition, fitness, and behavioral trends. It also uses modern technology to make weight loss much easier. In other words, this new protocol eases, simplifies, and even makes weight loss fun.

In the modern protocol, a 500-calorie diet is no longer applicable. With the modern approach, the focus is always on the foods as well as adjustment to the total calorie intake per day. The recommended calorie intake, particularly for first-time dieters, is 700 or 800 calories. Rather than being restricted to eating a handful of fruits, veggies, and proteins, dieters are allowed to eat all types of foods, as long as they are low in carbohydrates. This includes foods that were not allowed in the original protocol, such as carrots, beet, and pineapple. Sugar is still not permitted in this modern-day approach.

Selecting the right protocol

If you have followed the original protocol in the past with good results, we recommend you not to switch to the modern-day protocol. There is no need to change unless you have had difficulties before. If you are new to the HCG diet, we recommend that you start with the modern HCG diet. With 700 calories per day, many dieters have always had just as much success. There have been fewer plateaus reports and hunger issues too. But then it is ultimately up to you to decide which protocol to follow. We do not recommend one method above another.

The Importance of Following the HCG Diet Protocol

The HCG diet is perfect to kick-start your way into eating healthier, but it’s very specific. The diet requires you to follow and stick to the protocol to achieve the best possible results. No matter what methods you use, be as injection, drops, or pellet, it is very important to strictly follow the protocol when on the diet.

According to the protocol of Dr. Simeons, he emphasized following a specific diet to follow consisting of fruits, veggies, and lean protein. The foods he listed are very specific, and they are there for a reason. Your body can easily digest and metabolize them; hence you’ll spend more time burning the stored fats in your body rather than wasting time trying to digest those foods you are eating. The allowable foods are low in calories, low in carbs, fat free, and sugar-free.

What happens when you do not follow the protocol?

So, what happens when you don’t follow the protocol? Simple! If you don’t follow the protocol and stick with it, by all means, you won’t lose the maximum amount of weight during the diet, worse, you won’t be able to lose weight at all. If you lose, you won’t be able to keep it off for good.

Anytime you stray from the protocol, your weight loss can stall or slow down anywhere from 3 to 6 days. The only way you can get back on track is to do the apple day, drink plenty of water and stick with the protocol until your diet is done.

The HCG Diet has been around for decades and has helped many people lose weight for good. For this diet to work, you must follow the protocol carefully. It is best if you schedule your diet at a time when you have nothing going on to ensure your success. If you have lots of events to attend that require the gathering of people over foods, then it might not be the best time to start a diet.

How to follow the HCG Diet protocol

Loading phase: This is the first part of the diet where you prepare your body for the weight loss phase. The loading phase lasts for 2 days. During this period, you need to eat high-fat and high-calorie foods like nuts, bacon, hamburger, and avocados. Stay away from high-carb, high-sugar foods like pizza, pasta, cakes, ice cream, and many more. You will also start with your first day of HCG injection during this phase.

Very low-calorie phase: Also known as the weight loss phase. Basically, this phase lasts anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. Here, you’ll restrict your calorie intake to only 500 calories a day. You’ll eat only the allowable foods listed for the second phase. Continue with your daily HCG shots.

Maintenance phase: Here, you’ll be eating normally, anywhere from 1500 to 2000 calories per day but still avoiding sugar and starches. This phase goes on for 3 weeks. Unlike the previous phases, you won’t be having your daily shots of HCG anymore.

Sweet Tooth Cravings on the HCG Diet

We all crave for foods. We crave for carbs, salty, savory rich foods and sweets like chocolate. An occasional indulgence is necessary but not on the HCG Diet. There is no room for cravings on the HCG Diet protocol, especially for sweet treats. If sugar is brought into the second and third phase of the HCG Diet, weight loss is not possible. Any forms of sugar are not welcome except for those found on the allowable fruits and vegetables.

Dealing with sweet tooth cravings

Your first line of defense for your cravings is to figure out if the craving is physiological or behavioral. Often times it’s behavioral that it’ll take time for you to make adjustments. It can be tough to let go but you have to in order to lose as much weight as possible.  It can take 2 to 3 weeks for your body to adjust to a new eating habit but research shows that it’ll only take 5 days of being sugar-free so you can reduce your cravings. Here are ways for you to deal with sweet tooth cravings:

  1. Visualize how to handle temptation. Visualize how to decline deserts at gatherings or walk away from donuts at the office or the vending machine at the hallway. Temptations can pull you down and hinder you from losing weight.
  2. Keep your blood sugar level under control. This can prevent spikes making your sugar cravings unbearable.  Eat protein-rich foods, healthy fat and carbohydrates a day. Avoid beverages and snacks loaded with sugar prior to beginning the diet. Without sugar in your system, your cravings won’t be as difficult to battle.
  3. Avoid starchy and sugar rich-foods prior to your diet. If your diet was high in sugar prior to loading days, you can expect to experience cravings.
  4. Spice up your meal with flavorful herbs like coriander, cloves and cardamom. These spices can eliminate the feeling of total deprivation.
  5. Use sugar substitute for your morning coffee like Stevia. A small amount of sugar alternative is permitted on the HCG Diet.
  6. You can break up your meal and use your fruit option when you crave for sugar. Breaking up your meals on the HCG diet is permitted. You can eat your fruit options as a mid-afternoon snack or as a late-night snack.
  7. Cravings usually last for 10 to 20 minutes whether it’s sugar or not. Knowing when your cravings will stop will help you overcome your desire for sweet treats.
  8. Distract yourself and do whatever it takes until your cravings ease up. Go out for a walk, call a friend or take a bath.

PART 1: 26 Day vs. 46 Day HCG Diet Protocol

How long should I be on the protocol? The answer is it depends on how much weight you want to lose. You can do a short round or a long round. The most common is the short round or the 26-day hcg diet protocol. But you can do the long round or the 46-day hcg diet protocol. It just depends on how much weight you really want to lose.

Dr. Simeons’ instruction was clear regarding how long you should do the hGC diet. First, he clearly stressed to do the diet at a minimum of 3 weeks. Second, the maximum number of hcg injections given in a single round is 40.

When to do the 26 day protocol?

You can do the 26 day hcg diet protocol if you need to lose 15 pounds or 7 kg or less. The 26 day protocol is the 3 weeks diet Dr. Simeon mentioned in his manuscript. This is the minimum number of weeks you can be on the protocol. During the short round, you will use at least 23 injections.

The 23 injections include all the injections from the 2 loading days + 21 days of very low calorie diet (VLCD). That will give you a total of 23 injections. The remaining 3 days, you will continue with your vlcd but with no injections before continuing to the P3.That will give you a total of 26 days with 23 injections.

21 days of vlcd with injections

3 days of vlcd without injections

How about if you want to lose only 5 pounds?

According to Dr. Simeon, dieters who need to lose only 5 pounds must never be given a treatment lasting less than 23 injections. From his studies, he noticed that those who did the diet lesser than 2 weeks have regained the weight back.

When to do the 46 day protocol?

You can do the longer round if you have more than 25 pounds to lose. And if you think you won’t lose all the 25 pounds with a shorter round. In the 46 day protocol, you’ll need 40 injections with 1 skipped injection once a week. Therefore you’ll be on the vlcd for a longer period of time. Your 46 day protocol includes the following:

2 days of loading with injections

38 days of vlcd with injections

6 days of vlcd without injections (This is the no shot day once a week)

2 days of vlcd without hCG at the end of P2

———————————————————————————-

46 days of 500 calorie diet with 40 injections

You can do 2 separate shorter rounds if you think you won’t be able to stick with the longer round. However, you will have to wait for a certain amount of time before you can proceed with the second round. The thing with HCG diet is that you have to do the diet for at least 3 weeks and not to go beyond 40 hcg injections.
