Alcohol and the HCG Diet

Alcohol is not recommended while you are on HCG diet. In fact, Dr. Simeons does mention about it in his manuscript. “If no carbohydrates whatsoever are eaten, fats can be indulged in somewhat more liberally and even small quantities of alcohol, such as a glass of wine with meals does no harm. But as soon as fats and starch are combined things are very liable to get out of hand”.

Reasons why you should avoid alcohol

#1 Alcohol is high in calories

One reason why you should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages is that alcohol is basically high in calories. It may add too many calories to your hcg diet. Not only it is extremely high in calories (which contain about 7 calories per gram for beer), over-consumption can be taxing to your liver too.

#2 Alcohols can stimulate your appetite

Alcohol can stimulate your appetite making your portion control difficult. At the same time making you hungrier. Being hungry and less able to control yourself is even more dangerous.

#3 Drinking alcohol is accompanied by eating bad snacks

Alcohol can make you want to eat bad snacks that are not allowed on HCG diet. Examples of bad snacks are salty and fatty foods.

#4 Decreased metabolism

Alcohol can stop your body from burning fats. Instead of your regular meal intake, your body will use the alcohol as a source of fuel. As this will happen, the protein and carbs from the foods you ate will turn into fats.

#5 Alcohol cause poor sleep

A small amount of alcohol can make you sleepy. But too much can cause poor sleeping. Thus, contributing to weight gain.

The good thing is, HCG diet does not only control your cravings for food. It also controls your craving for alcoholic beverages.

Normally, alcohol is not advised when you are on HCG diet. However, will it caused you harm if you will drink one or two shots of vodka or whiskey during an office party? If there are cheat days for foods, you can have your weekly share of alcohol as well. It’s a matter of choosing the right kind of alcohol and consuming them in moderation.

Reduce Cravings During Phase 2 of HCG Diet

HCG Phase 2 is where your weight loss takes place. This is the hardest yet the most challenging and most exciting phase of the HCG Diet plan.  This phase really works but you have to put an extra effort too into making it work.

During Phase 2, you are on a very low-calorie diet usually 500-700 calories per day. You might find yourself very hungry at first. You might also crave for foods that are not listed among the allowable foods on your diet. However, there are ways that can help you stay on track. All it takes is your willpower and some tips from us.

Number 1- Eat foods that are lower in calories

You should never go over your 500 calories hcg diet when you eat low-calorie foods. Veggies are best examples- lettuce are mostly water. You can virtually eat as much lettuce as you want. Toss it with a bit of onion, asparagus and some vinegar instead of salad dressings. Salads can keep you full for a long time and will help you stay on track.

Number 2- Drink extra water

Number 3- Drink lots of tea

Tea is an appetite suppressant. It is allowed in HCG Diet. Just make it sure you drink a plain tea with NO sugar and honey.

Number 4- Spread out your calorie intake

Eating all of your 500 calories in the first few hours of the day will make you hungrier later. So spread out your calorie intake. It’s better for you to eat a smaller amount throughout the day so that your stomach isn’t as empty for so long.

Eat something small every few hours. When you get up, eat an apple. When you start feeling hungry eat an actual breakfast from the list of approved HCG diet foods. Then a couple of hours later eat a light snack followed by light lunch. When you follow this pattern, you can break the 500 calories into five tiny meals.

Number 5- Eat something when you’re truly hungry

If you feel like you are starving, eat something from the approved list. Just make sure what you are eating is low calorie. Apple, lettuce salad or even a cucumber works well. It’s better to go slightly above 500 calorie limit as long as it is an approved HCG food rather than to cheat.

Not Losing Weight on The HCG Diet

It’s frustrating when you see no improvement on the scale even when you have tried your best to lose weight. If controlling your cravings, getting enough sleep and correctly taking your P2 meals not enough to lose weight, then what is?  Are you going to give up?

Before you think about giving up because you aren’t losing weight despite all your efforts, take one last look at the real reasons why you aren’t losing weight.

  1. Cheating

Cheating can keep your body from losing weight. A small bite here and there can totally make a difference in your success on the program. When you cheat, you will lose nothing. Worst, when you cheat frequently you will even gain some weight.

  1. Have you gone #2 lately?

Sometimes, not removing your bowel frequently may be the root cause why you are not losing weight on HCG diet. It’s normal to experience less frequent bowel movement during your 500 calories hcg diet because you are eating less. Since there is a lot less going in, then there is a lot less going out. But if you haven’t been to the restroom for about three days, you may find out that this has something to do with having a smaller loss or no loss at all on your weighing scale.

  1. You are hungry

Being hungry can affect your weight loss. Maybe you are not having the right hcg dose. Because if you aren’t you will feel hungry. It only indicates that your body isn’t using your stored fats as fuel. It is possible that your dose can be too low or too high which causes your body to hold on to fats and not to lose any weight at all. Not being hungry on HCG diet is a good sign that the hormone is doing its job.

  1. Are you exercising?

Exercise isn’t that bad at all when you’re on HCG diet. Some can do it successfully but some won’t. You can tell that exercise isn’t right for you when you feel extremely tired and weak on the protocol.

Exercise can speed up your metabolism. This is good under normal circumstances but not with 500 calorie hcg diet. It can make you feel hungrier and your food craving is intense.

  1. Dehydration

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day on HCG diet is very important to prevent fluid retention. Fluid retention can add up to your weight.

Cheating on an HCG Apple Day

An Apple day is performed when your weight loss has stayed the same for several days on Phase 2 of your HCG diet. This is also known as HCG stall. Some like to call it as HCG plateau. Plateaus or stalls can be irritating. And it does happen during Phase 2 of HCG diet. It is mainly caused by simply not following Dr. Simeons protocol completely. But the most common reason behind plateaus or stall is CHEATING.

Whatever the reason is, the best known and recommended way to break up your stall is doing an Apple day. What if you ended up cheating during your HCG Apple day?

Seriously though, if you did cheat during your HCG Apple day try not to be hard on yourself. You are not doomed, so don’t stress yourself out. Relax a bit but you have to stop cheating and follow the protocol strictly. This is the rule and you have to follow rule in order to be successful in your weight loss journey.

What to do after cheating on HCG Apple day

  1. Don’t do another Apple day. NEVER do 2 consecutive Apple days.
  2. Go back to your normal very low calorie diet after your Apple day.
  3. Don’t stress yourself over your cheating. Forget about it but make sure that you won’t cheat anymore even on Apple days.
  4. Spend some time again to read the protocol. Try to refocus on how you are going to succeed in the HCG program.
  5. If your weight loss still does not resume few days after doing an Apple day, you can consider doing another apple day. You may want to do another stall breaker. However, this time do not cheat. You can try the popular Steak day. There are actually quite a few more different ways to break an HCG stall.
  6. Take a walk each morning to help yourself refocus and get you back on the right track. Try to do some light exercise. Light exercise can help you speed up your weight loss.
  7. DO NOT start an Apple day without taking your HCG Injections.

Do not give in to your temptations. Try hard and be committed to the program.

Smart Cheating on HCG Diet

Cheating is not allowed during Phase 2 of your HCG diet. And you know this by heart. But there are times that you just want to freak out and grab those delicious piece of cake then eat to satisfaction.

It’s not exactly ideal to cheat especially during P2. I’m not encouraging you either because it’s a big NO in the protocol.

But if you can’t really help yourself there are healthier ways to cheat.

  1. Do not cheat on carbs

Carbs contain fuels needed by your body but they have little nutrition compared with proteins, fruits and vegetables. So, stay away from carbs. Make time to eat healthy foods instead of eating foods that will make you happy such as sugar and carbs. Prepare your foods ahead of time. Keep plenty of foods high in nutrition but low in carbs like protein, fruits and veggies. Your calorie count may end up higher but still, you are avoiding carbs.

  1. Load Properly

This is a cheating tip because if you will not load properly on your HCG diet, technically you are cheating on yourself. HCG diet loading phase is extremely essential. If you will not load well on FATS (not carbs) you will definitely encounter some difficulties as you proceed with Phase 2 of your HCG diet.

  1. Cheat on proteins

Proteins provide plenty of nutrition needed for your weight loss hcg diet. So when you feel that you are hungry and have to freak out and cheat, cheat on protein. Egg white, protein shakes and beef jerky are rich in proteins.

  1. Keep some approved veggies and fruit handy

Veggies and fruits are great when you are in a situation where you are stuck either trying to come up with a healthy Phase 2 meal or not eating at all while you are not.  Veggies like cherry tomatoes can make a great snack that you can easily grab when you are hungry. Fruits like apples, orange and grapefruits are great for snacks too and they are very handy.  You can keep some in your bag when you go to work or in your car.
